The case against Ken Blevins
Voted August 13, 2026 to block a binding public referendum on Flock
surveillance, denying Conroe voters a direct say on a program they
were never told about.
Explaining his vote, Blevins pointed to cost rather than the merits of
letting residents decide:
"I am not in support of spending a quarter of a million dollars of
taxpayer money without having seen validated signatures of registered
Conroe voters."
Yet the Flock program itself has been running since 2021, starting
with a 19-camera pilot. Council approved the current five-year
contract in September 2024: 52 cameras, $130,000 a year, $650,000
total, running through 2029, all well before any of these officials
were elected, and all without a single validated signature or
resident vote of any kind. That's more than two and a half times
the "quarter of a million dollars" Blevins said he wouldn't spend
without proof of resident support. Blevins now sits on the council
keeping that spending in place, while opposing a vote to let
residents decide whether to continue funding it.
