The case against Mayor Coon

Coon's support for Flock goes back further than 2026. On March 10, 2022, as a city councilman, he personally made the motion to approve a $120,965 expansion adding 22 more Flock cameras. It passed unanimously on the consent agenda, with no public debate.

On July 23, 2026, now as mayor, the City Council voted unanimously to table two proposals that would have given residents more oversight of the Flock surveillance program: a citizen advisory committee, and having the city attorney research a resident vote on the program.

Mayor Duke Coon told the council: "I support this Flock program. I'm going to support it until the moment [Police Chief Jon Buckholtz] tells me otherwise."
